Three more individuals have sustained injuries in yet another drone strike in the strife-ridden region of Manipur, with one drone being discovered during a combing operation in the Kangpokpi district. This incident follows the tragic attack on Sunday afternoon in Koutruk village, located in Imphal West, where at least two Meitei individuals, including a woman, lost their lives, and six others were wounded. According to law enforcement, Kuki insurgents deployed drones and RPGs to execute the attack.
On Monday, authorities reported that another drone assault took place in the Meitei-majority district of Imphal West, injuring three civilians in the Senjam Chirang Maning Leikai area. During a subsequent search operation, security forces recovered a drone in the Kuki-majority district of Kangpokpi, specifically from Kharam Vaiphei.
The police, in their statement, emphasized the ongoing search and area domination operations conducted by security forces across the vulnerable hill and valley districts. These efforts aim to maintain control and prevent further violence in the conflict-prone regions.
On Sunday, in response to the Koutruk village attack, Kuki organizations claimed that there was an exchange of gunfire between insurgent groups from the Valley, state police, and “village volunteers” of Kangpokpi, following an ambush on civilians traveling along the Kanguii-Lamka Road.
The situation remains tense, with reports of armed miscreants mobilizing in several locations that have previously experienced intense conflict. As soon as the attack in Koutruk commenced, senior police officials, including the IGP, DIG, and SP, along with other police forces, swiftly responded to counter the situation.
In retaliation, security forces, in conjunction with the Army and Central Forces, carried out combing operations and returned fire. The police headquarters have issued strict instructions to all senior formations and district Superintendents of Police to stay vigilant, maintaining an elevated state of alert across the state.
Throughout the night, all forces remained on high alert, conducting joint operations in the border areas between Churachandpur and Kakching districts, Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts, as well as between Kangpokpi and Imphal West, and other critical zones.
